A small town, a good place to live

Some things new in 2003

Caroline Leuenberger and her daughter, Gail, gave us an article from 1977. It tells the history of the Dahlman Manufacturing Company. In the article, Eben Dahlman adds some thoughts about Grandy in the early 1930's. Now there is even a photograph of Eben and his wife, Verna, on the pages.

Take a look at the pictures of the Grandy businesses and the people. Don't forget to check out the "photographs" page. It has views of the old Grandy. The depot picture has links to the local history of the Great Northern Railroad in eastern Minnesota and Grandy.

Then there is the Grandy school. It was District 58 and later District 658. From the 1940's until it closed in 1969, Shirley Feldheim was the District Clerk. Her records of the parents and children in the district, most hand written and some typed, were donated to the Minnesota Historical Society.

Shirley died in May 2001. She saved much history of Grandy and in that history are a few photographs of the students of the school. The pictures are not complete but they do span a decade from 1958 to 1967.

It has always been a safe town. Here, below, is a 1960 picture of the Grandy "Home Guard".
